The new Belle & Sebastian album is called Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance

Scotland’s quietly reigning champions of twee, Belle & Sebastian, haven’t released an album since 2010’s mostly excellent Write About Love, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been gently, shyly busy: Singer Stuart Murdoch finally released his very Belle-like film, God Help The Girl, earlier this year, and the band has been hard at work on its ninth album in Atlanta. Though the promise of Hotlanta having an effect on the band’s sound is bolstered by the selection of Ben H. Allen III (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective) as producer, from the sounds of the behind-the-scenes video below, it’s pretty much business as usual, which is fine. (There is barbecued chicken featured in the video, so maybe the Atlanta influence was purely culinary.) The album, Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance, will be out January 15, 2015, via Matador, and the band will play a few shows—including a handful in the U.S.—over the next couple of months. Dates can be found here.
