The new Power Rangers movie has assembled its Mighty Morphin team

Casting notices for the new Power Rangers movie have been trickling out at a steady pace for the last couple of months, with various largely unknown performers shuffling dutifully into their tightly-tailored chromatic duds. Now, director Dean Israelite has managed to assemble a full set of five, not only making him the king of the playground, but also meaning that it’s probably time to get a look at the robot dinosaur-piloting, Putty-punching crew.

The biggest name in the cast: R.J. Cyler, from Me And Earl And The Dying Girl, who’ll be stepping into the shoes of the Blue Ranger, Billy. (The Power Rangers Twitter account confirmed today that the characters would be using the names from the original show, graciously ensuring that a host of “WE LOVE YOU TRINI” tattoos won’t have to be mournfully scrubbed from people’s chests.) Then there’s just-announced Yellow Ranger Becky Gomez, a.k.a. Becky G., a YouTube remix star who recently guest-starred on a couple of episodes of Empire. From there, things get a little less mighty, star power-wise, with minor The Martian player Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin from the Chinese animated blockbuster Monster Hunt, and Dacre Montgomery adding a bunch of pink, black, and red to their wardrobes, respectively.

Although the basic team has now been assembled, there’s no word yet on who’ll be playing the movie’s antagonists, or what sort of annoying, screeching voices they’ll be forced to affect. (Also no hint about who’ll be playing the Green Ranger, even though Josh totally already called it, even before Mrs. Dason said it was time for recess.)

Power Rangers is currently planned for a 2017 release.
