The new preview for Hannibal’s much-anticipated third season is, as expected, a carnival of horrors. It depicts an apparent murder in progress that Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) uses as an opportunity to lecture Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson) on the difference between observation and participation, some shots of Joe Anderson’s disfigured Mason Verger dressed in his Sunday best, and finally a reveal of Richard Armitage as Francis Dolarhyde, who just has to take off his shirt and flaunt his tattoo. Perhaps most importantly, Stag Man is back and ready to incite more debate about what he actually symbolizes (besides threesomes).
Being a “First Look trailer,” the preview incorporates interviews with the main cast, who all promise a terrific season. However, the inclusion of certain actors makes it pretty clear who lived and who died after last season’s bloody finale. This might irritate fans who want to go into the season unspoiled, but, as Lawrence Fishburne promises, “even if [viewers] know what’s coming, they don’t know what’s coming.” The third season of Hannibal starts June 4.
