The new X-Files script made David Duchovny cry
David Duchovny, who has long carried the flag for FBI agents who are strong, yet sensitive, isn’t ashamed to say that the script for Fox’s X-Files revival left him in tears. As Duchovny told Entertainment Weekly:
I got the first script this morning…I started crying reading the first page. It was just so strange to see the names on the page. It had nothing to do with the script itself. It was just like, I’d been talking about this for a long time. We’d been planning it for a long time. It took a long time to get all the people in the same place and get the deal with Fox. So let’s say two years we’ve been talking about doing it. Now it’s the fun part. Now we actually get to do it.
While it’s clear that Duchovny will bring a lot of emotion to the project, the real question is whether the script is actually any good, or if Duchovny stopped reading on the first page and called Gillian Anderson instead, sobbing, “Gillian, we did it!” (“I know, David. I know,” she would probably respond, glancing at her watch.) But wait—Duchovny later called the script “fantastic,” so hopefully that means he finished it and will memorize his lines before shooting.
In addition, the actor confirmed earlier reports that the six new episodes will be a mix of standalone and mythology entries. He also said that he would be open to doing another season, explaining, “I don’t know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don’t know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn’t bring it back with the idea of ending it.” He stopped just short of saying, “The truth is still out there,” because X-Philes can only handle so much positive stimulation from one interview.
