The newest Maniac teaser questions Emma Stone and Jonah Hill's curious bond
We’re roughly a week from the premiere of Netflix’s Maniac, Cary Joji Fukunaga’s anticipated Netflix series, and today a new trailer dropped teasing the story’s emotional backbone, which comes via the magnetic draw that exists between the characters played by Emma Stone and Jonah Hill. “Maybe these two have a cosmic connection,” ponders Sally Field’s character, referring to the ways the two seem to keep crossing paths in the different realities prompted by a mysterious pharmaceutical drug trial. But the teaser also hints that the series, which looks to explore a scientific cure to mental illness more effective than therapy, might not be a love story so much as a study of the importance of human need. “Maybe we’re just two people looking out for each other,” Hill says in a voiceover that emerges right at the tail end of Field’s assessment.
Justin Theroux and Sonoya Mizuno co-star in the 10-episode series, which is slated for a September 21 release date.
