Paul Feig of Freaks and Geeks and Bridesmaids has created a web series, Other Space. The new trailer gives us a peek into this freshly minted universe, one of familiar sci-fi tropes dipped in self-awareness and populated with Feig’s brand of droll— but hopefully genuine—characters. The whole thing smacks of other, largely British space comedies—Red Dwarf, Hyperdrive, and Hitchhiker’s Guide, to name a few—but with any luck Other Space will be able to develop its own voice. After all, Americans bumbling in the void will screw things up differently than Brits doing the same.
The series stars some known and unknown variables: MST3K’s Joel Hodgson is once again trapped on a spaceship in a pair of coveralls, with Karan Soni (Safety Not Guaranteed) and Milana Vayntrub (Silicon Valley) in prominent roles as the optimistic captain and pigtail-twirling navigator, respectively. Other Space premieres April 14 on Yahoo Screen.
