The first season of TNT’s Animal Kingdom wrapped with Smurf (Ellen Barkin) still at the top of the food chain, leading a band of man-children in a criminal enterprise. Her position’s looking less secure in the first teaser for the new season, though. Her sons, played by Scott Speedman, Jake Weary, Ben Robson, and Shawn Hatosy, are all itching for a chance to either break out on their own or rule the coop. Baz, the smartest of the bunch, poses the greatest threat to Smurf, something she appears to acknowledge in this preview. But we wouldn’t count her out just yet.
The promo has all the waves we’re used to seeing on Animal Kingdom, but it’s surprisingly bereft of the usual shirtlessness. Maybe season two will see them all get office jobs? In any case, we can look forward to catching up with the Codys come summer.
