The Polyphonic Spree to out-Santa Santa by touring with zoo animals this Christmas season

The Polyphonic Spree has never been a group to shy away from being a bit over the top, especially when performing live (as The A.V. Club learned earlier this year). Now, the group has announced a series of tour dates that will infuse its already elaborate stage show with one of the few things more spectacular: the holidays.

The band's upcoming Holidaydream tour is in support of the its forthcoming, aptly titled holiday album Holidaydream: Sounds Of The Holidays Volume One, which is set to kick off the season early with an October 22 release. The tour is the culmination of years of the group’s hometown holiday variety shows in Dallas, which in the past have included tap-dancing grandmas, break-dancing, and zoo animals, all uniting for one of the sunniest Christmases of all time. (Those who balk at overblown circus antics spoiling the concert can breathe easy: Each show will include a second, straight rock set.)

Not all the venues have been announced yet, but a preliminary list of tour dates and venues is below.

December 6—Los Angeles, California
December 8—San Francisco, California
December 11—Chicago, Illinois
December 14—Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
December 15—Webster Hall—New York, NY
December 22—Lakewood Theater—Dallas, Texas
