Entertainment Weekly debuted the trailer for the new film from Fede Alvarez (the Evil Dead remake). Don’t Breathe follows three teens in Detroit that break into a blind man’s house to rob him, only for things to go terribly awry. The film stars Jane Levy, Daniel Zovatto, Dylan Minnette as the would-be robbers, and Stephen Lang as the blind veteran who has a host of surprises for them.
Don’t Breathe premiered at SXSW this year and was a real crowd pleaser, delivering tons of tension and shocks as the teens discover just how formidable, and depraved, their mark truly is. There’s lots of twists and turns—including a couple that may be given away in this trailer—but Alvarez does a great job grounding everything in the actors’ performances while ratcheting up the excitement and fear in the cramped house. There’s also one of the best acts of vengeance captured in recent memory that had the crowd cheering but was also fairly repulsive (see the movie). While not for everyone, this is a film that gradually reveals just how dark it is and will make audiences squirm with each reversal of who’s in control of this chaotic situation.
Don’t Breathe opens in the U.S. on August 26.
