There's some good news to balance out word that the musical adaptation of Big Fish will be closing in December. Disney Theatrical Productions has confirmed a new deal to collaborate with William Goldman on a musical adaptation of The Princess Bride. Goldman’s 1973 fantasy novel, adapted into the classic Rob Reiner film starring Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, and Robin Wright, has been down this road before. A few years ago Goldman collaborated with The Light In The Piazza composer Adam Guettel and completed a large part of the score, though ultimately it fell apart over a financial dispute. But Alan Horn—who, along with Reiner, was one of the founders of Princess Bride's distributor, Castle Rock Entertainment—is now the chairman of Walt Disney Studios, it was he who brokered a new deal with Goldman. There's no official timetable, creative team, or cast in place as of yet, but all of that is in motion. Just imagine what they’ll do for the "Rodents Of Unusual Size" number in the Fire Swamp.
