The Princess Bride is too good for Honest Trailers to ruin
Honest Trailers’ whole thing is taking the piss out of movies, so it’s a testament to the power of Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride that the Screen Junkies guys can’t find too much to complain about when breaking down the film. Sure, the sets are crappy, the music is cheesy, and the action isn’t actually that exciting, but even the snarkiest of YouTube series isn’t immune to the film’s charms. In fact, the voice-over starts by describing The Princess Bride as “a satire of all those sappy, swashbuckling medieval love stories that happens to be the best sappy, swashbuckling medieval love story ever made.”
Still the video gets in some solid jabs about The Princess Bride’s “really, really polite action,” its obsession with catchphrases, and the somewhat questionable development of its central romance. But maybe the best gag is the one that demonstrates what it would be like to watch the entire film with Peter Falk speaking the dialogue. Plus, we have to admit that referring to Christopher Guest’s Count Rugen as “His Fingers Go To Eleven” is pretty inspired.
