The Razzies decide they hate Kirk Cameron now

The Razzies, the only awards show to apply the principle of “negging,” handed out awards in Hollywood this Saturday—at an actual theater this time—and, as usual, no one was there. (None of the nominees, anyway; the BBC reports that this was the first year that the Razzies were open to the paying public.) An academy of 757 voting members, presumably made up of ex-National Lampoon staffers and whoever writes the jokes on popsicle sticks, voted on this year’s winners, chosen from a list of nominees that represents either a telling reflection on popular attitudes toward film or a series of cheap shots at obvious lowest-common-denominator targets. One of the two.

To their credit, this year the Razzies managed to squash their long-standing beef with Adam Sandler, after apparently determining that Kirk Cameron represented a greater danger to American culture than a guy who just wants to go on elaborate paid vacations. (They’re not wrong.) Cameron received the awards for Worst Actor and Worst Screen Combo—an award he shared with his own ego—while his film Saving Christmas was dubbed Worst Picture of the year, an award surprisingly not presented by either IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes. Ben Affleck was also awarded “The Razzie Redeemer Award” in acknowledgement of his journey from Gigli to Gone Girl, an award he still didn‘t show up to receive. A full list of “winners” is below.
