The redesign: still a work in progress

Hello friends,

On this historic day, we'd like to let you know that we're not perfect, either. (Just like America!) We launched this redesign just over a week ago, and we're still working out some kinks. (Insert joke.) Your feedback, both via e-mail and in the comments sections of various articles, has been invaluable. As you know, this is a pretty damn big project. Anyway, here are some things that have been fixed, or at least that we're pretty sure have been fixed.

— Long usernames shouldn't be a problem now. Not infinite, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 characters, if that's what you're after. Short user names = still totally acceptable. Look at Phel, for example.

— All comments should now be ported over from the old site. There was a gap between late October of 2008 and the relaunch, but all should be well.

— Similarly, comics in brief and DVDs in brief. Those didn't make the initial run, but are now all set.

— There have been some problems with strange grades showing up, like Slumdog Millionaire showing a D when in fact it was an A-. That's been addressed, but may still show up in the next few days. If you see one that's obviously wrong, and you just can't take it, email [email protected].

— Many videos on regular features (including My Year Of Flops and I Watched This On Purpose) did not port over correctly. That problem is either completely fixed, or in the process of being fixed. So if you want to see the best moments of 88 Minutes or Mr. Magorium, you totally can.

— We're working (well, the tech guys) on a solution to the double/triple posting problem. They've got a long-term solution in mind, but it's going to take a while, so please bear with us.

— Similarly, the need to refresh to comment is in the queue.

— We're working on a "last updated" bit for the front page, similar to what the old site had.

What other problems are y'all having? We know some people have complained about not being able to comment, which is obviously a huge thing we'd like to see solved. If you're having any trouble posting a comment (or replying to a comment), please either contact us via the link at the bottom of the page, or just email [email protected]. Let us know a) exactly what happened b) what OS you're using c) what browser you're using and even d) what article you're trying to comment on.

Thanks, and thanks for working with us through our time of crisis.
