The Rogue One behind-the-scenes video really puts the “war” in Star Wars

At the Star Wars Celebration currently underway in London, director Gareth Edwards debuted a behind-the-scenes look at the first standalone film in the franchise, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The video is not unlike the look at The Force Awakens that came out of last year’s Comic Con. There’s a lot of waxing poetic about practical effects and the magic of being in a Star Wars movie. However, there’s a lot more war.

The film apparently features an intense beach-set showdown, evoking the Normandy landings on D-Day. This battle is teased in the new poster released for the film, which shows Stormtroopers wading through perfectly still water, while the Death Star looms in the background.

Earlier in the Rogue One panel, Edwards spoke about this gorgeous planet, called Scarif, for which the Maldives served as the real-life location.
