The Runaways dino-soar to Hulu tonight
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
Marvel’s Runaways (Hulu, Friday): It only took 10 episodes, but the titular kids of Marvels Runaways have finally— get this—run away. (And you would, too, if you found out your parents were legit child murderers.) This season will show the kids learning to survive on the run with nothing but their superhuman abilities and a dinosaur (and friendship!) while the whole city is searching for them. Meanwhile, the aforementioned child-murderers continue to obsess over a mysterious giant hole.
Eric Thurm will be catching up with The Runaways this weekend. For a season one refresher, check out Gwen Ihnat’s take, and read what Alex McLevy has to say about season two here.
Regular coverage
Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars 4 (VH1, Friday, 8 p.m.)
Saturday Night Live (NBC, Saturday, 11:30 p.m.)
Wild card
Derry Girls (Netflix, Friday): Even if your parents aren’t power hungry child-murderers, growing up isn’t easy. And if simply being a teenager weren’t troubling enough, the Derry Girls have to navigate growing up during the capital-T Troubles in Northern Ireland. Set in the early ’90s, this sitcom finds humor in a time of conflict by viewing it through adolescent eyes much more concerned with the hot local priest than the nation in turmoil. Since its release last year, Derry Girls became the most successful series to air in Northern Ireland in almost 15 years. Now, it’s making its U.S. debut via Netflix. Cheers!
