According to Deadline, Showtime has given a series order to Frankie Shaw’s SMILF, a “raw” and “honest” half-hour comedy show about a single mom living in Boston and juggling her hopes for “relationships, sex, and a career.” The series is based on Shaw’s own award-winning short film, and she’ll write, direct, produce, and star in the Showtime series. SMILF will also star Rosie O’Donnell as Shaw’s character’s mother, a woman named Tutu who is “completely oblivious to social convention,” making this O’Donnell’s first time as a series regular on a TV show.
SMILF is set to premiere in the fall.
