The Sandlot director says he's sold a 2-season sequel show to an undisclosed streaming service

Sandlot nostalgia remains a surprisingly potent force in the pop culture ecosystem, one that’s seen a number of networks and producers over the years attempt to tap into the quintessential “Oh, yeah, remember The Sandlot?! That movie was the shit!” energy source that’s powered so many drunken millennial conversations over the years. Last year, we reported that Fox was attempting to mine that particular nostalgia vein yet again by putting together a prequel to David Mickey Evans’ beloved kids’ sports movie, apparently centered on the “legend” of the very large, baseball-destroying dog that serves as its misunderstood antagonist.

Now, it sounds like Evans might have shifted gears: Per The Hollywood Reporter, he recently made a podcast appearance in which he stated that he’d just sold a 2-season sequel series to the original movie, featuring all of the original cast, to an undisclosed streaming service. “I just sold a Sandlot television show. We’re about to get an order for the first two seasons,” Evans told the hosts of The Rain Delay podcast on Thursday. “I know who’s going to stream it. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out right now.” (As we, ourselves, are not geniuses, we can only follow our gut instinct and assume he’s talking about Epix.)

From the sound of the show’s logline, it won’t just be fans watching Tom Guiry and Patrick Renna reminisce about that time Smalls didn’t know what s’mores were, thus killing us; all of the characters will apparently have kids, who might, you know, actually play some baseball or something, instead of standing around and just talking about how great The Sandlot was.
