The sci-fi war comic Drafted is getting a movie and a reboot

Don’t be so glum, The Last Starfighter fans. Sure, your favorite tale of humans getting conscripted by enigmatic aliens to fight and die in a vast interstellar war will probably never be remade. But the thing about star wars is that, if you miss one, there’ll always be another coming along, full of aliens willing to imply, if not state outright, that humanity must fight for them or face utter and complete destruction.

And hey, look, there’s one now! It’s Devil’s Due Publishing’s Drafted, Mark Powers and Chris Lie’s comic-book tale of the entire human race being turned into soldiers in an intergalactic war. Sure, it doesn’t feature recruitment via Starfighter’s tried-and-true arcade-game-and-flying-car method, but it does feature child soldiers flying around in space and killing people, just like good old Alex Rogan used to do.

Drafted is being developed as a feature filmand not for the first timeby Benderspink Productions, which has been making a name for itself recently by getting involved with productions based on interesting non-DC or Marvel comics properties. The company recently signed Witchblade creator Michael Turner’s Aspen Comics, and is involved in the production of Syfy’s planned Five Ghosts.

To go along with the news, Devil’s Due has also announced that Drafted will be getting a comic-book reboot, with new issues penned by co-creator Mark Powers going on sale next year.
