The Secret Life Of Pets digs up a sequel
Our furry companions find ways to pass the time between walks and feedings in Yarrow Cheney and Chris Renaud’s The Secret Life Of Pets. The Look Who’s Talking for the Purina set boasts an all-star cast that includes Louis C.K., Jenny Slate, Eric Stonestreet, Ellie Kemper, and Kevin Hart, who voice various animals who get along pretty well, prey drive be damned. It’s an enjoyable enough romp, and its $400 million worldwide box office revenue proves that audiences feel there’s plenty of entertainment to be wrung from your dog’s alone time. And according to Variety, the global earnings, combined with the humor to be mined from rabbit droppings, have secured a follow-up to the film.
The Secret Life Of Pets 2: Kong Island (that’s not the official title, obviously) will be produced by Illumination founder/CEO Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy. The film’s already in development and is slated for release on July 13, 2018. There’s currently no word on who’s returning to voice our anthropomorphic little buddies, but it’s a safe bet that anyone whose character didn’t end up on a farm to, um, “run free” will step back into the recording booth to pick up where they left off.
