The Shadow Of The Colossus movie still exists, has a new director
There’s a new courageous filmmaker attempting to climb and slay the lumbering giant that is Sony’s proposed big-screen adaptation of PlayStation 2 classic Shadow Of The Colossus. Andres Muschietti, director of the 2013 horror film Mama, has taken up the call, replacing Chronicle director Josh Trank at the helm. (Trank, it would seem, is a little busy with both a standalone Star Wars movie and Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot.)
It was 2009 when Sony first announced its desire to adapt Fumito Ueda’s story of a guy murdering a bunch of majestic creatures to revive the girl he loves. The last time there was any movement was January of 2013, when Seth Lochhead, who co-wrote Joe Wright’s Hanna, was announced as the screenwriter for Shadow Of The Colossus. Lochhead is still on board to pen the script, now under Muschietti’s supervision. In a press release, Sony Pictures says Muschietti was chosen because he was a fan of the game and “has a strong vision for the film and its characters.” Hopefully, Muschietti and Lochhead will be the filmmakers to find and repeatedly stab the glowy bits on the decidedly less than majestic creature that is video game-to-film adaptations.
