The Shield’s Michael Jace sentenced to 40 years
Last week, Michael Jace was found guilty of killing his wife, April, whom he shot three times in May 2014. The Shield actor, who reported the shooting to 911 himself, was convicted of second-degree murder, though his defense attorney had pushed for a voluntary manslaughter conviction, arguing that Jace had only meant to “hurt“ his wife when he shot her three times in front of their two sons. Jace was convinced she was cheating on him, though he never found any proof of an affair. His now 10-year-old son testified at the trial that Jace said “If you like running, then run to heaven,” before shooting his wife for the second time.
Today, Variety reports that a Los Angeles judge sentenced Jace to 40 years in prison. At the hearing, Jace iterated that he hadn’t premeditated April Jace’s murder, a statement which led a member of the victim’s family to leave the courtroom in disgust.
