The Shins offering up new song today

In order to entice fans to sign up for its email list, The Shins are offering a track called "Simple Song" from the band's new album, Port Of Morrow. The record is available for pre-order now in various formats, including a limited edition version on reel-to-reel tape. As previously reported, Port Of Morrow was recorded mostly by singer-songwriter James Mercer, who remains the only remaining member from the original Shins lineup. But Mercer did invite some guests, including former bandmates Marty Crandall and Dave Hernandez. (Conspicuously absent is Jesse Sandoval, who famously slagged Mercer and promoted his food truck in a Portland Mercury story from 2009.) The album comes out March 20. [via Pitchfork]
