The Simpsons are heading to an app store and Apple TV near you

The Simpsons are going to Paris!—we mean, Apple TV, which has partnered with FX Network on “Simpsons TV,” the newly remodeled home of the animated family. The Springfieldians and the 27 seasons dedicated to their exploits will remain put at Simpsons World, but now anyone with an Apple TV can use a version of the FXNOW app to stream episodes and/or clips. Additionally, “Simpsons TV” will provide curated content in the form of channels that will finally deliver the kind of “lean back” experience you ostensibly only get from an app or Apple TV.

With the “programming guide,” you can select a channel—say, Springfield Shuffle—and let your eyes glaze over as the playlist runs. Channel 6 looks like the Simpsons TV equivalent of C-SPAN, featuring the more “political” episodes like “The Monkey Suit.” Or check out the Springfield Biography Channel to get to know everyone’s quirks a little better (just don’t expect Bumblebee Man’s origin story).

Although the development involves a new presentation rather than any exclusive new content, it should bolster the cord-cutting resolve of anyone who’s otherwise opposed to subscribing to satellite or cable to access Simpsons World’s bounty. But this new app will also give Apple TV users access to episodes of Fargo, American Horror Story, Archer, Louie and American Crime Story: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson, in case you’re not caught up.
