Remember that secret show you went to on the roof of a warehouse in a neighborhood you’d never ventured into before? Well, you can retire those bragging rights, because this past weekend, 20 lucky fans got to see a show inside an actual volcano.
Consequence Of Sound reports that Deftones singer Chino Moreno performed inside of Thrihnuagigur, a dormant volcano in Iceland, as part of Reykjavík’s Secret Solstice Festival. The cost of admission was especially high, as fans paid £1,380 (about $2,025 American), walked across lava fields for two and a half hours, and then were lowered into the mountain’s magma chamber with a converted window-washing lift. Temperatures inside the crater were below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
After all of that, fans got only three songs in a set that included the Deftones’ “Change (In the House of Flies)” and unspecified covers of one song each from Morrissey and David Bowie. Icelandic singer Snorri Helgason (formerly of the group Sprengjuhöllin) joined Moreno for part of the performance. £460 (or $675) per song seems a bit steep, but you pay a premium for the greatest “you had to be there” experience of all time.
