The Star Wars: Episode IX wrap party featured a human disco ball and John Boyega singing Vanessa Carlton
Star Wars: Episode IX—We Still Don’t Have A Title Yet officially wrapped shooting this past Friday after nine long months, and that only means one thing: wrap party! And it was truly a wrap party: Episode IX marks the official end of the so-called “Skywalker saga,” completing the narrative arc that began with the original 1977 Star Wars and goes through The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Therefore, this is the last time this cast will work together—unless Disney and Lucasfilm find a way to work in a Star Wars: Episode 7 1/2 or Episode 8 1/3, which is always possible.
Photos and videos of the party—which featured a human disco ball, random satyrs wandering around and growling at people, a ‘70s-style roller skating rink, creepy human-shaped topiary, and a remix of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles”—have been trickling out all weekend; as far as we can tell, there’s no real through line to the sci-fi decadence of the whole thing, except that this is the second-highest-grossing film series of all time (the MCU has it beat by two billion and change), so why the fuck not.
Among the most reliable chroniclers were Joonas Suotamo, a.k.a Chewbacca 2.0, and series star John Boyega, both of whom shared videos on Instagram and/or Snapchat that were then dutifully ripped and uploaded across different social-media platforms by fans.
