The Star Wars Tatooine set has become a way station for ISIS

The childhood home of high-ranking Rebel Alliance leader Luke Skywalker is now being used as a way station for real-life terrorist group ISIS.

Tataouine—which is how it’s spelled in real life, as opposed to Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine—the area of Tunisia that inspired the most popular backwater planet in the galaxy, has experienced increased traffic from terrorists looking to enter Libya and join up with ISIS. Last week, terrorists attacked the National Bardo Museum in the nation’s capital, Tunis, killing 23 and leaving many others wounded. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, resulting in several countries issuing warnings about traveling in Tunisia.

A large weapons cache was also found in the area earlier this month that contained rocket-propelled grenade launchers and more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition, CNN reports. (The inclusion of BlasTech DL-44’s, E-11 blasters, and EE-3 carbine rifles, as well as several Gonks, in the suspected terrorist armory are presumably kept under wraps for security purposes.)

This area of Tunisia has become a popular pilgrimage destination for fans of the Star Wars saga, particularly since fans worked to save the crumbling remains of the Lars Family Homestead in Nefta. The actual filming locations are several miles away from where the suspected terrorist activity is taking place, but the British government, as well as officials at the U.S. Embassy, have a bad feeling about this and are warning against “all but essential travel” to areas of the region. (And no, getting a picture of yourself in Mos Espa for your Facebook profile pic does not count as “essential.”) Wuher, Mos Eisley Cantina mixologist, could not be reached for comment.
