The stars come out for hurricane relief, Hand In Hand

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Tuesday, September 12. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Hand In Hand: A Benefit For Hurricane Relief (multiple networks, 8 p.m.): What was initially planned as a telethon responding to Hurricane Harvey has now expanded its scope in order to aid the victims of Hurricane Irma. Airing commercial-free on ABC, Bravo, CBS, CMT, E!, Fox, HBO, MTV, NBC, and Oxygen (and a host of online sources), Hand To Hand is scheduled to include appearances by some of the biggest names in music, film, and TV, such as Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Drake, George Clooney, and Stephen Colbert. But will any of them pull a Kanye West and go off-book to deliver a rant about TV reporters pointing out “looters” to the police or the dramatic impact that climate change seems to be having on the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season?

Wild card

The Mindy Project (Hulu): Mindy Kaling’s eponymous sitcom begins its final season. Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya will be on hand to monitor Dr. Lahiri and the gang as they go through one last spate of rash decisions, inadvisable hook-ups, and Morgan non sequiturs.
