The superteams of The Defenders and Halt And Catch Fire battle for your weekend

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television on Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19. All times are Eastern.

Top picks

The Defenders (Netflix, Friday) and Halt And Catch Fire (AMC, Saturday, 9 p.m.): The tech pioneers of Halt And Catch Fire just can’t catch a break. When the fourth season of the AMC drama opens up, they’re racing to be the first name in the modern marvel that’s poised to revolutionize the entire 1990s: the internet. And yet it’s the internet that will allow the best show on TV that you’re not watching to be overshadowed on its big weekend, as Netflix rolls out its latest Marvel series, a crossover event that teams up all the heroes from Netflix’s other Marvel series. The Defenders finds Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and (sigh) Iron Fist banding together to defend their shared New York City turf from Sigourney Weaver, someone who knows a thing or two about how they do things downtown. Alex McLevy’s on hand to offer additional Defenders thoughts and Iron Fist mockery, while Dennis Perkins gets ready to say goodbye to Joe, Gordon, Cameron, Donna, Bos, and everything else that got great about Halt And Catch Fire while you weren’t looking.

Wild card

Tiffany Haddish: She Ready! From The Hood To Hollywood! (Showtime, Friday, 9 p.m.): In legitimately convenient timing, Showtime has a stand-up special on deck for everyone who’s become a fan of Tiffany Haddish after her breakout performance in Girls Trip.
