The Swell Season pays for counseling for those who witnessed suicide

After a man (now identified as 32-year-old Michael Pickels) committed suicide at a recent Swell Season concert, many among the estimated 1,900 who witnessed it were left in a state of shock, with several flooding the comment boards of SF Weekly to relay how they were having trouble coping. Now the band has arranged to pay for grief counseling for anyone who may want it, setting up four sessions at Palo Alto’s Kara center that any audience member can attend for free. In a statement released yesterday, the band said it had also gone to Kara “to help try and make sense of this situation,” and said that it had found the session to be “a step in the right direction.” Anyone interested in using the service themselves can reach the center here.
