The teaser for Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk has grim war imagery, but no Harry Styles
Christopher Nolan movies have become cinematic events that everybody has to see even if they don’t care about another Batman sequel, Leonardo DiCaprio entering people’s dreams, Hugh Jackman as a magician, or Matthew McConaughey in space, mostly because Christopher Nolan doesn’t really make movies like anybody else these days. Even his lesser works are cerebral affairs that audiences love to unpack later, whether it’s to pick out the themes or to unpack the plot holes that inexplicably hold the storyline together. However, Nolan’s next film, Dunkirk, has something that none of his other movies have had: One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles.
Sadly, this first Dunkirk teaser doesn’t include any shots of Styles’ adorable face, but it does get some other important points across, namely that it’s a Christopher Nolan movie about a key event in World War II. In fact, this teaser is pretty straightforward in general, which is making us wonder what kind of Nolan-style twist is hiding amidst all of the solemn British soldiers waiting to be evacuated from the eponymous French city—unless the twist is just that it’s a relatively straightforward war movie.
Aside from Styles, Dunkirk will also star Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, and James D’Arcy. It’s set to be in theaters next summer.
