The teaser for Kickboxer: Vengeance is awfully light on the kicking
We’ve known for some time that Radar Pictures and director John Stockwell (In The Blood) were giving the reboot to the fulcrum of dorm discussion that is 1989’s Kickboxer. And Jean-Claude Van Damme, star of the original film and straddler of semis, signed on to the film, dubbed Kickboxer: Vengeance, exactly a year ago today. In celebration of that anniversary (presumably), a teaser for the film has been released.
The teaser’s awfully light on the kicking, with only Van Damme executing a few blows to someone’s face in the rain. It’s also disappointingly splits-free, but that could be because Van Damme has now become the master (Durand), and he can’t be seen engaging in such flashy tricks (he probably won’t dance either) . His pupil is played by Canadian actor and stuntman Alain Moussi, who will be the kickboxer out for vengeance. We also see MMA fighter (and erstwhile Drax) Dave Bautista’s tattooed back, MMA fighter George St-Pierre shutting the door in someone’s face, MMA fighter Gina Carano sneering in someone else’s face, and non-MMA fighter Van Damme wearing sunglasses and a hat.
Kickboxer: Vengeance will be unleashed some time in 2016.
