The Thermals to release new album in 2013

The Thermals' sixth studio album will hit stores next spring. The Portland punk outfit finished recording the forthcoming LP in Hoboken, New Jersey with Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. producer John Agnello. Fortunately for the A.V. Fest alums, the studio work was finished on Oct. 28—right before Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast.

And fortunately for people who enjoy The Thermals, band members described the release as, "Everything Thermals fans know and love about this band. It's like a cross between two of our best-known and -loved records, More Parts Per Million (Sub Pop, 2003) and The Body, The Blood, The Machine (Sub Pop, 2006.) It's loud, fast, incredibly scary and undeniably catchy." So, that's good.

Although no formal tour plans have been announced yet, the band has been confirmed to make an appearance at SXSW.
