As it turns out, the Stooges not only appeared before others' cameras as professionals, but also occasionally filmed themselves on vacation and at birthdays and other gatherings. Now, at last, the footage is available for viewing in your own home. Finally, millions can sleep in peace knowing there is tangible proof that Moe was indeed an excellent ring-toss player, and that Curly was truly an animal lover. The footage is couched in a short documentary that traces the history of the Stooges from the group's days as part of Ted Healy And His Southern Gentlemen through the not-too-fondly remembered Curly Joe era. It's accompanied by chirpy narration that recounts the group's salad days and the lonely death of Larry Fine with equal enthusiasm. What's more, the use of Stooge footage to underscore biographical events—an account of Curly's shooting accident is accompanied by footage of Curly and the boys engaging in gun-related shenanigans—sometimes seems bizarrely inappropriate. Still, anyone interested in something called The Three Stooges Family Album, and you pretty much ought to know who you are, is unlikely to be disappointed, even if much of the material won't come as much of a surprise.
