The time has come to step into the ring with Iron Fist
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18. All times are Eastern.
Top picks
Iron Fist (Netflix, first season available Friday): Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: a young billionaire returns from the (presumed dead) to take back what’s his and save the world, one street fight at a time. The bare-knuckle brawling should clue you into the fact that we’re not referring to Batman or Iron Man, but we can see how you might get confused. No, we’re talking about the arrival of Danny Rand and his glowing hand on Netflix’s Iron Fist. The first season, which co-stars Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, drops today. We’ve had some misgivings about the show (to put it mildly), but Caroline Siede’s been off training in the TV Club dimension, so she’ll bring fresh eyes to her daily reviews of the first season.
Regular coverage
Love (Netflix, reviews running daily at noon)
Grimm (NBC, Friday, 8 p.m.)
Star Wars Rebels (Disney XD, Saturday, 8:30 p.m.)
Samurai Jack (Adult Swim, Saturday, 11 p.m.)
Wild card
Mary Tyler Moore: A Celebration (PBS, 8 p.m.): Viewers like you should tune into PBS this Saturday, in part because we don’t know how much longer the public broadcaster will be around, as well as to watch this hourlong special about the late Mary Tyler Moore. The tribute combines classic clips from The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Ordinary People with talking heads from Betty White, Ed Asner, Valerie Harper, Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLeod, John Amos, Carl Reiner, Dick Van Dyke, and even Moore herself. Oprah Winfrey’s also on hand to applaud Moore’s pioneering efforts as a TV career woman.
