The trailer for first-person action movie Hardcore is suitably hardcore

The first-person point of view is well-covered territory in books and video games, but outside of a few found-footage movies and that scene in Doom, there haven’t been too many first-person movies. Part of the reason for that is because, until recently, it was very difficult to attach a movie camera to someone’s head without them dying. Now, though, technology has advanced far enough that we can put a camera on anything without risking its life, and thus the golden age of first-person films is about to begin.

Heralding the birth of this movement is Hardcore, which is billing itself as “the first ever action POV feature film.” Hardcore was funded by an Indiegogo campaign, and based on this official trailer, it looks about as bananas (and supremely violent) as the craziest first-person shooter video game ever made. The audience takes on the point of view of a cyborg guy who is on a quest to murder a ton of people in Russia for reasons that we assume are noble, and along the way he runs into some naked people, a telepathic villain who looks like Draco Malfoy’s dad, and Sharlto Copley (who gets a good line and dies in this trailer). There’s no word on when Hardcore will be released in American theaters, but you can always play Call Of Duty or whatever while you wait for it.
