The trailer for John Krasinski’s Dream Corp LLC is peak Adult Swim weirdness

When Adult Swim first started, it was mostly a home for dirt-cheap cartoons and anime imports. Gradually, it shifted into a very specific brand of extremely weird comedy, with shows seemingly designed to be bizarrely off-putting, grating, or even straight-up boring. It’s a very specific aesthetic, and Adult Swim has such a firm grasp on it that a seasoned TV watcher can probably pick out an Adult Swim show with just a few seconds of footage.

You won’t even need a few seconds to recognize the Adult Swim-ness in this teaser for Dream Corp LLC, though, which comes from producers John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant. The show is like Inception meets Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, with Napoleon Dynamite’s Jon Gries playing a mad scientist who runs a dream therapy facility. Also, the dream sequences are animated with “the latest rotoscope technology,” the sort of thing that’s so bizarre that it’s amazing Adult Swim hasn’t been making rotoscoped shows for years.

Dream Corp LLC also features Merchant (playing a robot, which he has some experience with), Nick Rutherford, Stephanie Allynne, and Mary Lynn Rajskub. It’ll premiere on Adult Swim on October 23.
