The trailer for Skyline: Spooky flashlight aliens are the new misunderstood aliens

In its bid to be the next great alien invasion flick, Skyline looks to the classics—you know, like Independence Day and Cloverfield—with its tale of spaceships that suddenly swoop into major cities and unleash giant reptilian monsters that stomp everything in sight. The gimmick that sets it apart: These aliens also have a spooky blue light, and anyone who looks into it gets weird CGI face before being sucked up into the ether. And because co-directors Greg and Colin Strause (Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem) apparently blew all their money on effects, the cast is led by a mostly low-key ensemble of TV actors like Donald Faison, David Zayas, and Eric Balfour, who’s lucky that this is a film so it can’t get canceled halfway through.
