The trailer for Sofia Coppola's Somewhere will really make you feel for rich and famous people

The first trailer for Sofia Coppola’s new Somewhere debuted today, suggesting that the Lost In Translation writer/director may eventually be responsible for the indie-film rebirth of Stephen Dorff, who could use it. Dorff plays a rich, famous actor who’s rescued from his empty existence of lounging around the Chateau Marmont pool and watching strippers work the poles in his hotel suite by the arrival of his estranged teen daughter, who apparently helps him to understand that anyone can survive the listless ennui of being rich and famous and the shame of being honored at awards shows so long as they have always someone to smile at wanly. There’s not much to go on here besides a general sense of mood—but like most Sofia Coppola films, mood is 90 percent of the equation, with at least five percent going to the soundtrack, which one again promises to be lovely, just lovely. And as with most Coppola films, you’ll probably find it either beautifully melancholy or arid and pretentious. But hey, good for Stephen Dorff! Now he’ll really have some ammo the next time he runs into Jeremy Piven.
