The trailer for The Girlfriend Experience TV show is more Soderbergh than sexy

The trailer for the TV adaptation of the 2009 Steven Soderbergh film The Girlfriend Experience has a similar vibe as its cinematic counterpart: cool colors, downplayed emotions, and a portrayal of sex as commerce instead of a basic human impulse.

The show—executive produced by Soderbergh and directed and written by indie filmmakers Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz—stars Riley Keough, who had a small role in Soderberg’s Magic Mike but who is probably best known for playing one of the wives in Mad Max: Fury Road. Keough plays Christine Reade, a second-year law student who finds herself curious about a business offering “The Girlfriend Experience” to high-paying clients. This is just what it sounds like: an emotional and sexual relationship that ends when the woman leaves the room. The trailer is set to FKA Twig’s “Two Weeks,” which is missing its all-too-appropriate lyrics.

The Girlfriend Experience is set to premiere sometime next year.
