The trailer for The Son Of No One: Tracy Morgan made an unfunny cop movie on purpose this time

Dito Montiel’s grim crime thriller The Son Of No One is due to close Sundance next week, meaning we’ll be hearing from our own Park City correspondents soon enough on whether it’s worth a look. In the interim, this trailer offers the opportunity for snap judgments on the film about a cop (played by Channing Tatum in a wishy-washy mustache that appears to do half his brooding for him) who’s being tormented both internally and externally over a cold case from 1986. We don't know what that has to do with The Replacements, but there you go. Al Pacino and Ray Liotta both seem to be working the any-means-necessary, corrupt lawman idiom, while Juliette Binoche and Katie Holmes (as Tatum’s harried wife) provide the needling questions of conscience so crucial to a story like this. Most interesting, however, is the appearance of a grim, unsmiling Tracy Morgan, who has no lines in the trailer yet steals all the attention, since it’s so rare to see him doing anything other than acting like a gleefully narcissistic wackadoo. Could this be his real-life Hard To Watch, Based On The Book ‘Stone Cold Bummer’ By Manipulate?
