The Tupac hologram might hit the road for a tour with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg
After a well-publicized debut this weekend at Coachella, the Tupac hologram has already inspired a lot of excitement, a few hand-wringing thinkpieces, one billion bad jokes from social-media laughmeisters, and, possibly, a tour. The Wall Street Journal reports that the hologram—which is, in fact, not a hologram, but a 2D digital image projected on Mylar in order to appear 3D—might join Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg for a tour of arenas or even stadiums if non-projected, non-dead rappers like Eminem and 50 Cent can be persuaded to join this pothead fever dream. And as you probably suspected/feared, the virtual Tupac is only the beginning. Ed Ulbrich, the CEO of the company that produced the effect, says that faux-Pac was constructed purely from digital, rather than archival, images. "This is an illusion," he said. "This is just the beginning. Dre has a massive vision for this." [via Rolling Stone]
