The turtles want to be real boys in the new TMNT 2 trailer
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles captured the public’s imagination because it features heroes who are, well, teenage mutant ninja turtles. So what would happen if you took away two of their key components and left them as regular teenage ninjas? Would audiences still enjoy their goofy superhero antics? The answer is almost certainly no, but that isn’t going to stop Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows from asking the question anyway!
Indeed, that’s one of the only new scenes (along with a quick Splinter cameo) included in this latest TMNT 2 trailer, which mostly features slightly longer cuts of previously seen material like the creation of Bebop and Rocksteady via purple ooze. But when Donatello discovers the purple ooze can also potentially turn the turtles human, it causes Raphael (pro-transformation) and Leonardo (anti-transformation) to butt heads. Whether or not we’ll actually see all-human versions of the turtle is anyone’s guess (we’re voting yes), but we do know that at some point Leo will deliver the sure-to-be-iconic line, “We’re turtles, whether you like it or not.”
There’s all that plus more Casey Jones (Arrow’s Stephen Amell), more stuff falling from the sky, more objectifying shots of Megan Fox (despite the fact that the first movie did shockingly well by her), and more Beastie Boys music.
The turtles will wrestle with their identity while saving the world when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows hits theaters on June 3.
