The Twilight Zone is becoming a stage play

Rod Serling’s groundbreaking sci-fi series The Twilight Zone inspired many a dinnertable discussion about our concepts of reality, the banality of evil, and the idealization of childhood, among many, many other weighty themes. Filmmakers and other TV producers have carried on Serling’s work, on the big screen and small (to varying effect), but you haven’t questioned your existence until you’ve done so while seated in an opera box. At least, that’s what we think is behind a new stage adaptation of the TV series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Almeida Theatre’s production of The Twilight Zone will kick off in late January 2018, with Olivier-winning director Richard Jones at the helm. Also bringing Serling’s series to a live audience is award-winning playwright Anne Washburne, whose Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play was based on The Simpsons’ “Cape Feare” episode. That ended up being a loose adaptation of the popular episode, but there’s currently no telling just how closely Washburne and Jones will adhere to their source material. But the forthcoming show is working under the auspices of CBS, which produced the original series.
