In its brief lifetime, Scottish indie-pop group The Vaselines only released a single proper album, 1989’s Dum Dum, but thanks to the efforts of diehard fan Kurt Cobain—who covered “Son Of A Gun,” “Molly’s Lips,” and “Jesus Don’t Want Me For A Sunbeam”—nearly everyone has heard their songs. Cobain’s endorsement helped the group land a deal with his then-label Sub Pop, who released the comprehensive compilation, The Way Of The Vaselines, in 1992, and it’s Sub Pop who announced today that it will be putting out the reformed group’s first new album in 20 years. The record, named Sex With An X, features guest appearances from fellow Vaselines acolytes Stevie Jackson and Bob Kildea of Belle And Sebastian, has typically winking song titles like “Overweight But Over You,” and will see official release on Sept. 14, to be followed by a 10-city European tour.
