It seemed only natural for Run The Jewels to accompany the cat-rap remix of their second studio album with cat videos. Meow The Jewels was released in September and saw its “Oh My Darling (Don’t Meow) Just Blaze Remix” track get the laser-feline treatment less than a month later, and a follow-up video for “All Meow Life (Justin Hook Remix)” gathered cats from all walks of internet and screen life. Today Killer Mike and El-P released the video for “Meowpurrdy,” a track that features Lil Bub (yes, that one), Snoop Dogg, Maceo, and Delonte.
“Meowpurrdy” features a battle between a tabby monstrosity and an avenging kitten angel, rendered in director Cyriak’s psychedelic-fractals style, and is the stuff of fluffy nightmares. Cyriak, an animator who’s worked with Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, has also directed music videos for Bloc Party and Flying Lotus, and recently created the opening credits for With Bob And David.
