The Wachowskis to do a "modern, urban" version of Robin Hood
Although the last go-round with Robin Hood mostly fell on dead ears, an undaunted Warner Bros. has drafted Andy and Lana (formerly Larry) Wachowski (The Matrix, Speed Racer) to develop a more “modern, urban take” on the myth, taking it out of the Sherwood Forest and into the Sherwood streetz. “Modern” likely means “with guns and/or computers” while “urban” seems to be code for “starring Will Smith,” as he’s reportedly at the top of the Wachowskis’ list, although other details are so far being kept secret.
What’s not clear yet is where this movie will fit into the Wachowskis’ nebulous schedule: Halle Berry seems to believe that they’re filming an adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas with her next summer (although she also believes that it will co-star Natalie Portman and Tom Hanks, something that’s yet to be confirmed, so Berry may not be the most reliable source). And of course, the sibling duo has also been prepping its “hard-R Iraq war gay love story” Cobalt Neural 9 for a while now, an insanely strange film that could possibly ruin their careers or bring peace to the Middle East, it could go either way. Anyway, we wouldn’t be surprised if Warner Bros. convinces them to do this one first—ideally before Brett Ratner’s own robbing-from-the rich-to-give-to-the-urban-poor film—while this whole “recession” trend is still hot.
