The Walking Dead spinoff thinks that zombies would actually walk in L.A.

“Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead, fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world,” AMC president Charles Collier said when the network first announced a spinoff of its hit series. Naturally, that curiosity extends to Los Angeles—one of the world’s two or three parts, and now confirmed as the setting of the upcoming series to be filmed in 2015. As Variety notes, it’s unclear as yet whether the show will actually be filmed in Los Angeles, or in one of the handful of mythical cities rumored to lie beyond Los Angeles. Presumably producers are waiting for the results of scouting expeditions to see whether those places are discovered, or whether their scouts are devoured by bears.

Details continue to leak in slowly about the spinoff, which recently began going under the name Cobalt—so named for the chemical element that forms part of the Earth’s crust beneath Los Angeles landmarks such as the Hollywood Bowl and the legendary Pink’s Hot Dogs. So far we know that it stars Cliff Curtis as a divorced teacher, and Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey as the children of a female guidance counselor. Now we also know that these people will be terrorized by the undead, who we’re expected to believe actually walk in L.A.? Whatever, Walking Dead.

Should the spinoff prove a success, it’s hoped that another companion series might be developed that could at last tell a story set in New York.
