The weekend is here, so let’s take it One Day At A Time

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Friday, January 26 and Saturday January 27. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

One Day At A Time (Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.): This is it: The premiere of the second season of One Day At A Time, which picks up after Penelope’s (Justina Machado) divorce, Elena’s (Isabella Gomez) coming out, Alex’s (Marcel Ruiz) party-planning coup, and Lydia’s (Rita Moreno) sartorial success. The first season of this reboot made the case for revisiting the multi-cam format, and the earnestness continues in these new 13 episodes, which touch on queer identity, immigration, and gun control. But don’t worry about this great cast—they also get to take on more lighthearted fare, like gentrification (look, we had to mention Schneider at some point). We’ll be dropping in on the complete second season over the weekend.

Regular coverage

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Friday, The CW, 8 p.m.)

Jane The Virgin (Friday, The CW, 9 p.m.) winter premiere

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Friday, ABC, 9:01 p.m.)

Saturday Night Live (Saturday, NBC, 11 p.m.)

Wild card

Austin City Limits (Saturday, PBS, 11 p.m.): Killer Mike and El-P make their debut on this vaunted documentary series, which nonetheless will have all profanities edited out for viewers like you.
