The Who is working on a new record
Later this year, The Who will launch a 50th anniversary tour the band has called “the beginning to a long goodbye.” And lest the band leave the world with just the fond memories of its many classic songs, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and the other, newer guys have decided instead to make one more farewell record. The group plans to enter the studio this summer to record the follow-up to 2006’s Endless Wire. During a press conference, Townshend said the record would skew “more prog rock than pub rock,” and features at least three songs he wrote. Townshend also says he liked the sound of the 2014 record Daltrey made with Wilko Johnson, and added that the group “may try to make the record in a slightly more basic way”—though he admits that “a lot of [his] writing these days is pretty complicated.”
