The wordless trailer for Pedro Almodóvar's new film reunites him with Penélope Cruz

There’s a complete dearth of dialogue and a whole lot of suggestive imagery in the first trailer for Dolor Y Gloria (Pain & Glory), the newest film from Spanish master Pedro Almodóvar, his first since the muted American reception for 2016's Julieta. The film appears to jump back and forth in time as it follows a filmmaker (played by one of Almodovar’s longtime collaborators, Antonio Banderas) as he confronts the various relationships in his life. As is implied by the copious shots of Penélope Cruz—another longtime muse for the director—arguably the most crucial of those relationships is the one with his mother, which, as anyone who has seen one of the director’s films can attest, sounds about right.

Dolor Y Gloria comes out March 22 in Spain, but doesn’t yet have an American release date.
